Pink by Lili Wilkson

Like Many before me the first introduction to gay and lesbian characters in YA Lit was in Holly Black’s Tithe. I remember being in thrilled by Corny and found his and Naphemel’s relationship to be reviting and so interesting. I have always been an open minded person and from then on started to read as many GLBT books and I could, partly for my own mixed thoughts about myself. The story of Ava is a story that I think any teen should read whether they are gay, straight, bisexual, or transgender. Ava is a lesbian and unlike most parents, hers threw her a Coming Out Party and adore her girl friend Chloe. In the beginning I was wondering why Ava wanted to change so much, why she wanted to conform to “normal”. She goes to a new school, and gets new friends, even tries to date a boy, Ethan. The goal of Ava the entire book is to become what she thinks is normal, and normal girls wear pink and like boys, right? That’s what is going through Ava’s mind. When Ava decided she needed a boyfriend, Ethan, I could not understand why. Ethan had nothing going for him other than the fact that he was a hot boy. Now Sam, Sam I really liked he was funny and cynical. The whole Screws were amazing, Sam, Kobe, Jules, Jacob, and Jen. By the end of the book I hated Chloe; she became the biggest bully of the story and showed the change that happened in Ava. I said above that this was a story for everyone and it is. Pink shows that no matter what you need to be true to yourself and don’t allow anyone else to tell you what NORMAL is.

Review: The Awakening

wow, I loved this book just as much as I loved The Summoning. The story starts off were book one left off: Chloe, Tori, and Rae have been captured by the Edison Group. Both Chloe and the Group are depsret to find the boys, Derek and Simon (for two very different reasons) Chloe's cunning and smarts were a real enduring feature, and I actually started likinf Tori. Each angle and each turn of the story was so entertaining. The times with Simon and Chloe were so sweet but the Deerk scenes are... well lets justs say I'm team Derek ;D

I hope to read The Reckoning really soon.

I found this book at the library and read it in one night. Grady's story is sad but up lifting. A boy who at only 16 years old was beaten, raped, and left for dead has to learn to get back up. You can really see the struggle in Grady as he leaves his old school for a new one in order to escape the demons of that night. I liked how his confidence grew and the book progressed and how he started opening up to the people who cared about him. The character Jess was very funny, something Grady defently needed. I recomend this book, but beware of the mature sistuation that Grady is put into.

Review: The Summoning

Why did I wait so long to read this book? The Summoning is an amazing read, from the very beginning I felt for Chloe. She is fifteen years old girl who is just trying to be normal (and get that oh so wonderful time of the month) when she sees a ghost. Sent away to a mental hospital for teens she meets some very interesting characters. I’ll start with my least favorite: Tori. For most of the book Tori annoyed me she seems like the stereotypical rich girl, but from what I’ve heard I’ll give her a chance. Rae is a fun character and a good bit of comic relief. Now Simon and Derek, I have to say that I love Simon. He’s such a sweet heart. Derek though, he calls to my inner bad boy love radar. There’s something about Derek that makes him so appealing to me. I loved the story from start to finish; I was so mad that it ended on a cliff hanger though that just means a trip to the library or bookstore in the coming week. I give this book an A+

Review: The Gardener by S.A.Boden

Mason has never known his father, but longs to. All he has of him is a DVD of a man whose face is never seen, reading a children’s book. One day, on a whim, he plays the DVD for a group of comatose teens at the nursing home where his mother works. One of them, a beautiful girl, responds. Mason learns she is part of a horrible experiment intended to render teenagers into autotrophs—genetically engineered, self-sustaining life-forms who don’t need food or water to survive. And before he knows it, Mason is on the run with the girl, and wanted, dead or alive, by the mysterious mastermind of this gruesome plan, who is simply called the Gardener.


The concept of this book was great. With famine and hunger plaqueing our world its only a matter of time before we run out of food, or so according to the scientist at TroyDyn. The story follows Mason as he tried to save a mysterious girl from something not even he can understand. The story was complelling at times extreamly shocking. I was very suprised by the originality and sciencefiction of this story, and normally I'm not really into science fiction.

Ink Exchange, Fragile Eternity, Radiant Shadows

Out of all of Melissa Marr's books this one is my favorite. I really connected to Leslie, not because of what happened to her, but because of her spirit. She is am amazing lead character: Strong willed, kind, and extreamly strong.

The book takes place after Wicked Lovely from the point of views of Leslie, Ash's best friend, Niall, advisor to the Summer King, and Irial, the King of the Dark Court. Things have changed since WL and the Dark Court needs a new plan and that plan is Leslie. I loved how each character changed through out the book. Leslie from some one who had so much fear to some one who could choose to be happy, even if it means loosing something important. Like Irial who seems to be evil in the begining you find out that despite being King of the things that go bump in the night, he is loving and extreamly loyal. But it's Niall's character arch that always gets me. He changes so much from Wicked Lovely to the begining of Ink Exchange, and at the end of the book. He grows as a person finally able to be himself. I love this book, not only for the plot, but the message behind the book: That no matter how dark the tunnel is there is always a light at the end. You just have to survive.

Fragile Eternity,

Is the third book in the Melissa Marr's wicked lovely series. The tables have turned: the Summer Court is getting stronger, Winter is on the verge of vengences, and The Dark Court had a new King. The Characters from Wicked Lovely are back at the fore front. When ever I read this book I get chills because I know that something bad is going to happen, to many conflicts, to may competeing agendas. This is the book where I feel head over heals in love with Niall. As I said in the INK review, he has the most amazing character arch I have read in YA lit. He's just so bad ass, but so caring for those he loves. Seth, oh my seth. Many hated Seth after FE but I loved him, he's not as calm as we think he is in WL and I loved that.

Keenan, oh keenan, keenan, keenan.... I wanted to hit him and Ash the entire book. But it was Donia who stole the show, for me at least, she is strong, and able to let go of things she loves in order to protect her court, she's a great Queen

I won't give away to much, but Radiant Shadows was one of the sadest books in the series. One thing I love about these books are that Melissa Marr is that she doesn't surgar coat. She's realistic in her writing, and that shows in RS. I laughed and boy did I cry. Ani is an amazing character one of my favorites, and Devlin, wow, did my opinion on him change. I was happy to be back in the Dark Court seeing more of Irial (I feel in love with him in this book) and of Niall. This was a great fourth installment, I couldn't of been happier.

Can't wait for the fifth book, Darkest Mercy
