Review: Soulstice Simon Holt

From GoodReads
It's been six months since Reggie first discovered and fought against the Vours, malicious and demonic beings that inhabit human bodies on the eve of the Winter Solstice.

The Vours still haunt Reggie, but only in her dreams-until one night, when an unexpected visitor turns her nightmares into reality.

The battle against evil continues in Soulstice, the second book in the thrilling The Devouring series, which School Library Journal called, "Comparable to books by R. L. Stine and Stephen King....A must-have for horror fans."
Soulstice was a great book, it was just the right blend of fear, suspense, and mystery. Reggie is still recovering from her time in Henry's , her brother, fearscape and the Vours are now out to get her. Her best friend Aaron is tortured by the Vours as well his fears taking over his mind. As these two friends become deeper and deeper into the Vour's world they find that they might loose everything they hold dear, even their sanity. What I love about these books is that they are so different from most YA lit. This story isn't about true love or boy loves girl, which isn't bad but sometimes change is good. I love this series because it has something to it that make you feel fear, you fear the Vours, and hope that on Sorry Night you aren't alone and scared incase they trap you in your fears.

Review : Anansi Boys

Anansi Boys is the story of Fat Charlie, a normal man, working a normal job, with a normal girl friend. Fat Charlie's life changes when he finds out that his father was in fact Anansi, a west African spider god, and that he has a brother named Spider. With out realizing it Fat Charlie summons his long lost brother and soon realizes the consequences when everthing starts going so very oddly.

Review: I loved this book. Neil Gaiman is a literary god amongst men. He has this ability to write humor into darkness. To make a reader laugh out loud, gasp, cry ... His ability to envoke an emotion Is amazing. Fat Charlie was funny and spider even funnier. I would recomend this book to any one!!

Update: Got Books!! and review

http://gotbooksevent.blogspot.com

I'm a Part of the Event Called Got Books over at: http://gotbooksevent.blogspot.com/

and boy will I be giving one lucky person a real treat :D I have emailed the author of Faery Rebels: Spell Hunter, and she is mailing me a signed book plate for this book. So one lucky person will get this wonderful Faery book (reccomended by the amazing Melissa Marr) signed by the author. So be sure to come back here July 23 and enter into the contest post!!!!!

and now for my review:

Synopsis:

Forget everything you think you know about faeries. . . .

Creatures full of magic and whimsy?

Not in the Oakenwyld. Not anymore.

Deep inside the great Oak lies a dying faery realm, bursting with secrets instead of magic. Long ago the faeries mysteriously lost their magic. Robbed of their powers, they have become selfish and dull-witted. Now their numbers are dwindling and their very survival is at stake.

Only one young faery—Knife—is determined to find out where her people's magic has gone and try to get it back. Unlike her sisters, Knife is fierce and independent. She's not afraid of anything—not the vicious crows, the strict Faery Queen, or the fascinating humans living nearby. But when Knife disobeys the Faery Queen and befriends a human named Paul, her quest becomes more dangerous than she realizes. Can Knife trust Paul to help, or has she brought the faeries even closer to the brink of destruction?

Talented newcomer R. J. Anderson creates an extraordinary new fantasy world and weaves a gripping tale of lost magic, high adventure, and surprising friendship in which the fate of an entire realm rests on the shoulders of one brave faery rebel

I found this to be a great read, the charcter Knife is strong willed and funny. She doesn't go with the norm and becomes a great little fairy. I loved that the fairy's were small and that the romance wasn't cheesy or cliched. It was over all a great book and I reccomend it to all lovers of fantasy, faeries, or well to anyone

review of The Summer King

The Summer King (The Chronicles of Faerie, Book 2)The Summer King by O.R. Melling

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Synopsis:
This second book in a series "shimmering with magic, myth, and romance" (Booklist), follows sixteen-year-old Laurel as she tries to understand the cause of her twin sister's mysterious death. Honor believed in Faerie, a parallel land of mischievous immortals. Laurel doesn't. That is, until the fairies come and ask her to take up her sister's failed quest to find the Summer King, a lord who can light the midsummer fire that keeps the two worlds, human and Faerie, cleaved. Laurel must decide to help those whose cause killed her sister, and, in the process, come to believe that there is still magic-and love-in the world.

I loved this book, it was beautifully writen as Hunters Moon was.
The character Laurel changes and grows in the story and becomes an extreamly strong and dedicated young woman. Laurel is search through out Ireland to find and save the missing Summer King, and maybe save her sister at the same time. I loved Ian, how his character changes... even when he really changes. I'm so mad that I never bought the Light-Bearer's Daughter but I got it at my Library and I know I will love it.

WOW: Tempestuous by Lesley Livingston

My Waiting on Wedsday: Tempestous by Lesley Livingston

Release date: January 7th 2011

synopsis on Good Reads: .... well there isn't one... yet. but needless to say I loved the first two in this series.

Wonderous Strange:

17 year-old Kelley Winslow doesn’t believe in Faeries. Not unless they’re the kind that you find in a theatre, spouting Shakespeare—the

kind that Kelley so desperately wishes she could be: onstage, under lights, with a pair of sparkly wings strapped to her shoulders. But as the understudy in a two-bit, hopelessly off-off-Broadway production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, wishing is probably the closest she’s going to get to becoming a Faerie Queen. At least, that’s what she thinks... In this fun, urban fantasy, Kelley's off-stage life suddenly becomes as complicated as one of Shakespeare’s plot twists when a nighttime trip to Central Park holds more than meets the mortal eye.

Darklight:

Much has changed since autumn, when Kelley Winslow learned she was a Faerie princess, fell in love with changeling guard Sonny Flannery, and saved the mortal realm from the ravages of the Wild Hunt.

Now Kelley is stuck in New York City, rehearsing Romeo and Juliet and missing Sonny more with every stage kiss, while Sonny has been forced back to the Otherworld and into a deadly game of cat and mouse with the remaining Hunters and Queen Mabh herself.

When a terrifying encounter sends Kelley tumbling into the Otherworld, her reunion with Sonny is joyful but destined to be cut short. An ancient, hidden magick is stirring, and a dangerous new enemy is willing to risk everything to claim that power.
Caught in a web of Faerie deception and shifting allegiances, Kelley and Sonny must tread carefully, for each next step could topple a kingdom . . . or tear them apart.

With breathtakingly high stakes, the talented Lesley Livingston delivers soaring romance and vividly magical characters in Darklight, the second novel in the trilogy that began with Wondrous Strange.

needless to say I reccomended this Series to anyone who loves Faeries, adventures, love, and a bit of fun!!!!

The Devouring

On GoodReads: When Reggie finds an old journal and reads about the Vours, supernatural creatures who feast on fear and attack on the eve of the winter solstice, she assumes they are just the musings of some lunatic author. But soon, they become a terrifying reality when she begins to suspect that her timid younger brother might be one of their victims.

Risking her life and her sanity, Reggie enters a living nightmare to save the people she loves. Can she devour own her fears before they devour her?

Bone-chilling, terrifying, thrilling...what are you waiting for?

Review: DO NOT READ THIS BOOK!!!........... alone ... at night.. on winter sostice. This book was ohhh creepy and scarey. If you want a good and I mean good freak out read the devouring. Luckly for me it wasn't winter solstice when I read this (but it was midnight in a cold basement ) or I would have been scared out of my wits. evil children always creep me out ( I haven't seen the Omen ... children of the corn.) and this was no exception... I can't wait to read Solstice (next in the series)

.... remember show no Fear and beware the Vours

The Hunters Moon

The Hunter's Moon by O.R. Melling
GoodReads:
The Hunter's Moon, follows two cousins, Gwen and Findabhair, as they backpack around Ireland in search of the country's magical past. When she arrives in Ireland to visit her cousin Findabhair, American Gwen expects a fun backpacking trip to sites of the fairy lore they're both fascinated with. What neither cousin knows is that it's the summer of the Hunter's Moon, a dangerous time for mortals to meddle in the kingdom of Faerie. The girls camp out, and deep in the night Finn is kidnapped by the handsome Faerie king! In Gwen's quest to save her cousin, across beautifully evoked settings of modern-day and mystical Ireland, the spunky heroine's biggest challenge may be convincing Finn she needs to be saved!
Review: Some books just stick with you and this will be once of those books. Melling is an amazing writer. Her details of Ireland are beautiful, I can almost see the green hills, smell the Irish sea, taste the faerie foods that would entrap me. I love how faithful she was to celtic Irish lore but that she made it come to life in her own way. Qwen was funny, and very relatable to me... we both love food lol, and I share hers and Finn's love of Faeries and Folklore. The way the book was writen was beautiful and the characters wonderful, this book is one of my all time favorites.

White Cat

Review White Cat by Holly Black

From GoodReads:
Cassel comes from a family of curse workers -- people who have the power to change your emotions, your memories, your luck, by the slightest touch of their hands. And since curse work is illegal, they're all mobsters, or con artists. Except for Cassel. He hasn't got the magic touch, so he's an outsider, the straight kid in a crooked family. You just have to ignore one small detail -- he killed his best friend, Lila, three years ago.
Ever since, Cassel has carefully built up a façade of normalcy, blending into the crowd. But his façade starts crumbling when he starts sleepwalking, propelled into the night by terrifying dreams about a white cat that wants to tell him something. He's noticing other disturbing things, too, including the strange behavior of his two brothers. They are keeping secrets from him, caught up in a mysterious plot. As Cassel begins to suspect he's part of a huge con game, he also wonders what really happened to Lila. Could she still be alive? To find that out, Cassel will have to out-con the conmen.

Holly Black has created a gripping tale of mobsters and dark magic where a single touch can bring love -- or death -- and your dreams might be more real than your memories.

review: I love Holly Black's modern faerie tale series : Tithe, Vialant, and Ironside so when I heard about White Cat I was so excited but also scared. Would I love it as much as the others? Yes, I would. White Cat is fast paced, funny, at times disturbing (this is a good thing lol). Holly Black made me love some one and then later on hate their guts and it was sooo refreshing to have a male point of view. Castle was a great lead, I adored him. I also love that everyone wears gloves: its so mysterious and very sexy ;) This book is so good and I can't wait to read Red Glove (the next in the series)

Review of The Reckoning

From Goodreads:

Only two weeks ago, life was all too predictable. But that was before I saw my first ghost. Now, along with my supernatural friends Tori, Derek, and Simon, I’m on the run from the Edison Group, which genetically altered us as part of their sinister experiment. We’re hiding in a safe house that might not be as safe as it seems. We’ll be gone soon anyway, back to rescue those we’d left behind and to take out the Edison Group . . . or so we hope

review: The conclusion of This series was great. The story came to a great ending and I loved how all the characters have grown and changed since the Summoning. Each one has become their own person with their own powers and abilities. The villians badder and the love was .... lovelyer (couldn't think of a word lol) and Derek was ... even more sexy. I loved that we got to see alot more about the werewolves and about all of their powers. I highly reccomned this series to anyone who loves the supernatural, now I need to read Kelley Armstrongs adult series
